The conclusion of the Regeneration trilogy by Andrew Fitch |
| The conclusion of the Regeneration trilogy.
Billy Prior's frightening but pitiable sexuality forms the linking theme as Dr Rivers's patients return to the Western Front. The doctor's dream-recollections of his anthropology days in New Guineau point up the hypocritical irony of stopping head-hunting there while slaughtering a generation in Europe. The Melanesians could both name and exorcise the evil spirit which lead whole peoples to be ghosts. The British officer class don't know if they believe the official version of the reason for war, the conspiracy version, or that there is no reason at all.
