| After the initial worry of coping with poetry - which you have to read slowly - in novel form, I understood that everything would become clear later and you are meant to feel Jakob Beer's life lived backwards, so to speak. She brings out so well, not just the enormity of the Holocaust but the psychological damage in terms of strings of broken relationships and the inability of refugees to cope with and trust a new host society.
