| Hmmm.....I don't get the widespread appeal of this.
--------------
I like his books. I am not interested in books that have little or no plot and therefore flesh out the plot with descriptive sexual scenes, murder, trashy talk, etc. Does this sound like our present movies??? His plots do not need to "fleshed out".
--------------
I have read all the No. 1 Ladies books and find them charming and full of grace. The writing is not complex. It is simple storytelling from the eyes of woman who values all life, told through her relationships with people and Africa. I loved them all.
--------------
Try listening to it on tape/cd... I adore the accent and the simplicity of these characters. |

| For me, Sandy's easy-going style suggests as much of the dark, threatening side of Africa as much as the delightful, idiosyncratic Botswanan view of the world.
